Titular Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary - Oct. 7, 2010
Thursday October 7, was the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and the titular feast day for Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Winnipeg. On this special occasion there was a Solemn High Mass held. The Solemn High Mass was possible because District Superior for Canada, Fr. Jurgen Wegner, was visiting Winnipeg for the week. Fr. Wegner was the celebrating priest, Fr. Gerard Rusak was Deacon, and Fr. Raymond Lillis was Sub-Deacon. A Solemn High Mass is usually only possible in Winnipeg once every year, or two years. It is very impressive Mass, showing all the solemnity and glory of the Roman Rite of Mass.
After Mass, there was a potluck dinner, followed by a presentation by Fr. Wegner on his pilgrimage he led to Santiago de Compestella, this past summer. This was an authentic pilgrimage on foot, lasting over two weeks. The shrine of Santiago de Compestella, houses the remains of St. James the Apostle, and is over 1100 years old. This shrine was one of the three principal places of pilgrimages during the Middle Ages, and is still a major pilgrimage site today.
