You are troubled by problems and crushed
by life; You don't know what to believe nor what to
do; Mass and sermon seem to have become boring; You
are seeking the secret of happiness, and
peace of soul...
You
will be pleased to know that there is a true Catholic church
in Langley providing the Traditional Mass, the Sacrifice of
the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, in
Latin, every Sunday in a number of churches across
the province. This Mass is the answer!
The Mass that has survived two thousand years of human
history and many centuries of persecutions, the Mass which,
in this particular Latin rite, has been rightly called “the
most beautiful thing this side of Heaven”.
But
isn't the Traditional Mass forbidden by the Pope?
Certainly not. There is not a single decree banning the Traditional
Latin Mass. Furthermore, Pope St Pius V, in 1570, decreed
that it could never be forbidden, and in 1969 when the New
Order of Mass was introduced, Pope Paul VI did not abrogate
the Old Mass. No Pope has ever done it. Even Pope John Paul
II has encouraged the Old Mass: once in 1984 and again in
1988.
Why
do so many priests and bishops say it is forbidden?
Either
because they mistakenly believe it has been forbidden or because
they just don't want Catholics to have it.
But
in disobeying the Bishops, aren't you disobeying the Pope?
Not at all. It is true that many Bishops say we are against
the Pope because we hold to the Traditional Mass. However,
everyone knows that bishops are subjected to the Pope's authority.
Now, Pope St Pius V, in his Bull Quo Primum, of July14,
1 570, granted "in perpetuity that for the singing
or reading - of Mass in any church whatsoever this Missal
(Tridentine) ; may be followed absolutely without any
scruple of conscience or fear of incurring any penalty, judgment
or censure and may be freely and lawfully used.
"
Do
I fulfill my Sunday obligation in going to Mass celebrated
by the priests of the Society of St. Pius X?
Of course. The New Code of Canon Law says: "The obligation
of assisting at Mass is satisfied wherever Mass is celebrated
in a Catholic Rite." (can. 1248,1)
“Can
I fulfill my Sunday obligation by attending a Pius X Mass”
and our response was: “In the strict sense you may fulfill
your Sunday obligation by attending a Mass celebrated by a
priest of the Society of St. Pius X.” (Msgr. Perl, secretary
of the Ecclesia Dei Commission, January 18, 2003)
Is
the Mass said at by SSPX priests exactly the same as before
Vatican II?
Yes, indeed. Bring your old Missal (if you still have it),
you will find yourself at home. If you don't have one, don't
worry, you will be provided with one. But there is more: the
priests do believe in sin, in hell (they even preach on it
occasionally), in the Ten Commandments, etc. They teach the
Baltimore Catechism to the children, and have Benediction
regularly with the Latin hymns (O Salutaris, Tantum ergo...).
The
congregation is composed of a number of families with young
people and the priests themselves are younger than in many
parishes.
“By
virtue of Our Apostolic authority, We give and grant In perpetuity
that for the singing or reading of Mass in any church whatsoever
this Missal (of the Old Mass) may be followed absolutely,
without any scruple of conscience or fear of incurring
any penalty, judgment or censure, and may be freely and lawfully
used. (...) This present Constitution can never be
revoked or modified, but shall ever remain valid and have
force of law...” (St Pius V. Bull 'Quo Primum')
Faith
or Our Fathers, living still. In spite or dungeon, fire and
sword! Oh! how our hearts beat high with joy Whene'r we hear
that glorious word. Faith or our Fathers, Holy Faith. We will
be true to thee till death!
Come
and see for yourself.
