The Ashes
Do you remember Ash Wednesday? It is coming soon! That is the day that you come to the church to receive the blessed ashes on your forehead. When you were little, you probably thought it looked funny when the priest put ashes on the foreheads. I hope that later you realized there is a serious reason for this, and the words the priest says are serious. He says, “Remember man, that you came out of dust, and that you shall go back into dust”. It is to remind us about the punishment that Adam and Eve got from God after they disobeyed God. Do you know what the priest uses to make these ashes? They come from burned blessed palms from last year’s Palm Sunday. These palms were fresh and green a year ago. Now, the green is gone and the palms look like grey dust! This is how it is with people. One day we look young, fresh and healthy, but in time we will die. Man is just like a handful of ashes, and yet we dare to say to God that we want to do our own will, not His. We don’t want to obey! If only men could believe how crazy it is to fight the will of God! They would cry over their own sins like the faithful Hebrews did in the Old Testament. If we realize our nothingness, we would certainly beg pardon of the God we so grievously offend. Dear children please offer your prayers and sacrifices of Lent, starting with the ashes on Ash Wednesday, so that we all realize that we are like those same ashes, especially when we offend God Almighty. Make some very special sacrifices during Lent to make reparation for sinners. Also, I would like you to pray especially for 2 special graces: the end of abortion and the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Please offer all your rosaries and your sacrifices of this month of February for these 2 intentions. And, don’t forget to renew your subscription to this magazine. IF WE DON’T GET THE RENEWAL FORM BY FEBRUARY 15, YOU WILL NO LONGER RECEIVE THIS MAGAZINE. WE DO NOT WANT THIS TO HAPPEN, SO PLEASE HELP SOMEONE TO REMEMBER!
