Ten More Minutes!
Thoughts for Septuagesima Time

Dear Crusaders,

This is a lesson about how to be prepared to meet God.

In a big plaza called Audiencia, in Sevilla, Spain, there is an old tower with a big clock.  The clock is special because it has always been 10 minutes late.  Centuries pass, governments change, but the clock is still 10 minutes late!  Why?  It is because someone set it back when an execution of public criminals took place in the plaza.  The executions happened on the hour, and a merciful soul had it in his mind to give someone another 10 minutes in order to go to confession.

Ten minutes doesn’t appear to be great in ordinary life, but when this life comes to an end, it can be of great value.  In 10 minutes, the grace of conversion can come and a lost soul can be saved.  In 10 minutes, heaven can be gained!

While most children think that this doesn’t apply to them, God sometimes does call children in the springtime of their lives.  It is always possible that one of you has only 10 minutes left in life.  If you knew that you had only 10 minutes left in your life, what would you do?

I am sure that if you knew that you had only 10 minutes left, you would make good use of that time and not waste it!  But since we don’t know how much time God will still give us, make good use of the time of your life always, and never waste it by sin or you will not be ready to meet God!

If it is not ten minutes, it may be ten years or more, and when it is the end our life, we will be happy to be able to say that we filled our time with good works which pleased God, and which will help us at the last judgement.

Woe to you if the strike of the bell surprises you in the middle of sin.

So, listen dear children, to the warning bell, which is within your heart: "Ten more minutes, make good use of them!”  If the bell does not yet sound for you, continue to make good confessions, receive Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist, and stay prepared always.

With my priestly blessing, I am,

                       Father Dominique Boulet
