Tear off the disguise!
Dear Crusaders, One day, a donkey had a strange idea. He thought that he could scare the other animals. How was that? The donkey put on the skin of a lion. Sure enough, all of them got scared to death, and ran away from the wild beast. Soon after, they recognized the large donkey’s ears, and his famous voice. That was the end of the panic. Dear children, it is exactly the same trick that the devil is usually playing with men. Without shame, he is showing himself under the appearance of a lion. St. Peter warned us: “Your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion is roaming around.” The devil will scare you, to make you think that he is stronger than you. He will then try to attack you like a fierce lion. More often, the devil will try to approach you like an innocent lamb. To a child who goes often to confession, he will whisper: “Why do you go that often to confession. You always commit the same sins. You should not bother to go again and again to confession. Do like your little friends, have fun. Like the wolf under the sheep skins, it is the devil’s voice, do you recognize him? Again, it is Sunday: you heard a voice telling you: “This morning, there is a very nice hockey tournament. You will not be able to make it for Mass. All your friends will be there. Would you miss it such a nice game?” The wolf had spoken, would you listen to him? Another time, the tempter will give you the idea to commit an impurity. He will tell you: “You will see how nice it is. Anyway, nobody will see you.” Again, this is the wolf dressed with the sheep’s clothing! Lastly, you may hear a voice telling: “Now you are in trouble. If you tell this to the priest in confession, he is going to be mad at you. Better keep quiet!” Again and again, this is the wolf. Do not trust a single word from him. Now, let me give you an advice. Do like the man to whom that donkey belonged. He torn off the lion’s disguise, took a good stick, and gave a good licking to the donkey. You should do the same: your prayers will be like a good stick that will scare the devil away. But this is not enough; come to the Sacraments. There, you will find Jesus as the refuge of your soul. He is the Way, the Life and the Truth. Unlike the devil, Jesus will never deceive you. Father
