The Angel and the Roses
After walking two blocks, they came upon an old lady pulling out weeds in her garden. The two children offered to help the woman, and when they finished she gave them $5.00, for which they were very grateful. Next they came upon a man clipping his hedges. Peter offered to clip the hedges, and Jane offered to sweep up the trimmings. When the children finished, the man smiled and pressed a $10.00 bill into Peter's hand saying, "Share it with your sister, and I thank both of you for your good work." The two children thanked the man and walked another block. There they met a crippled lady, sitting in her wheelchair, and crying. They asked if they could help her, and she replied, "I wanted so much to buy Our Lady some flowers for her Feast Day, but I have no money!" And the poor soul continued crying. Peter and Teresa looked at each other and smiled, "Maybe we can help you. This is our money! We were going to buy some flowers for Our Lady, but you can have the money to buy some flowers!" The poor lady was beside herself with joy! "Thank you my dear children. I will pray that the Angel of the Lord will bless you!" Just then, the tower clock struck 11:30 and Teresa and Peter decided they should go home for lunch. Both parents were very happy to here about their adventures. They praised them and rewarded them with ice cream. Later that afternoon, the two children went for a walk in the park. It was a hot day and before long they sat down on the bench in the shade and soon fell asleep. When they awoke an hour later, they were surprised to see an Angel sitting between them. Peter and Teresa gazed at the Angel. Suddenly the Angel spoke, “I am the Angel Gabriel, and I saw what you did today. Our Lady has sent me to reward you in a special way. Go over to that tree children and see what you find there.” The children obeyed and by the tree they were surprised to find a huge bouquet of one hundred fresh roses, of all different colours. The children snatched up the roses and ran back to hug the Angel and thank him. He smiled and blessed them and told them to continue doing good deeds. And that is how they got roses for Our Lady! The End
