Little Talks to Little Folks

The Lady Who Loved the Sacred Heart of Jesus

In the early 1900's, there was a poor, sick woman who had to remain in bed because she did not have strength to do anything.  The doctor thought her condition was hopeless and did not give her any medicine to help her get better.  She was a widow; her husband had died some time before, and her children had to go out to work in order to support themselves and their mother.

The poor woman was left alone for most of the day.  She used to leave the door open from morning till night so that the neighbours and others passing by might come to her aid, in case she was in need.

She was always cheerful and very patient.  But one thing that made her very sad was the thought that she would die without seeing the beautiful statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which had been placed in the parish church.  She said, "It is certain that I shall never be able to go to church again.  I shall never see the beautiful statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus!"

But her friends and family told her," Do not lose confidence, if it is necessary we can carry you to church!"  The poor woman began a novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and asked to have a Mass said on the First Friday in May, at the altar of the Sacred Heart.  She was hoping to assist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and her friends agreed to wrap her in a shawl and carry her to the church.

When the First Friday in May came around, her daughter and a neighbour carried her in their arms to church.  The woman heard Mass and received Holy Communion.  Then suddenly, a miracle!  The poor woman was filled with joy and said, "I am cured!  Let us give thanks to the Sacred Heart of Jesus!"  She then got up and walked to the beautiful altar of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and there she knelt down to pray for a period of time.  The woman's cure was complete; she returned to her home and became the joy and happiness of her family.

She was grateful to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the cure He had given her and to prove that she was grateful, she always received Holy Communion in thanksgiving, on the First Friday of every month.

Yes, dear Crusaders, it is important to make your First Fridays every month because Jesus has promised to take to Heaven, all who make their Nine First Fridays devoutly.
