DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART
2'.
DEVELOPING DEVOTION TO THE SACRED HEART.
When
children are instructed in this way about the love of Christ, there
is little difficulty in their understanding devotion to the Heart
of Our Lord. All that remains to, be explained is the symbolism of
the Heart of Jesus. This is easily understood as a symbol of Christ's
love. Children should be taught that, on seeing a picture of the Sacred
Heart or on hearing the name ”Heart of Jesus” they should
think always of the love of Christ and consider this symbol as an
invitation of Our Lord to give over their whole heart to Him. If we
add Io this Christ's desire to give special graves to us if we love
Him and seek refuge in His Heart with great confidence, thon we have
completed the foundations of devotion to the Sacred Heart. All that
remains is that the two chief exorcises of the devotion (i. e. consecration
and reparation) be fully explained, and that the children be introduced
to their practice.
