Examinations, and their preparation were the great preoccupation during the final three weeks of the school year. Since last year Our Lady of Mount Carmel has held serious three hour end of semester exams for all high schoolers in all major subjects. At first rather daunting, it has now become a real challenge. The exam week started in the boys` high school on Thursday June 7, and in the girls` high school on Monday June 11. From then until the last class on Thursday June 14, exams were scheduled every morning and every afternoon.

This year our graduation and commencement ceremonies were held during the last school day, Friday June 15, feast of the Sacred Heart. After a High Mass celebrated by Father May, refreshments were served to all students, family and guests. Then everybody gathered in the gymnasium for the commencement ceremonies. They began with an address from the Principal, Father Scott, explaining the philosophy of life that ought to penetrate and characterize a truly Catholic education. Then came the presentation of the diplomas of graduation from eighth grade. There were eight of them, four of whom were asked to give speeches, giving different aspects of what they have gained at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Then came the four Kindergarten graduations. This year, the third graduation ceremony, was the first one in which there were no 12th grade graduations.

Father Scott then proceeded to name the students on the 2011-2012 Honour Roll, the school`s most prestigious recognition of general excellence. Six students, ranging from grade 2 through to grade 10 were placed on the Honor roll. Then came the awards for excellence in various disciplines and subjects, followed by the awards for perfect attendance.
This time of exams was interrupted by a most welcome break. It was the solemnity of Corpus Christi, celebrated on Sunday June 10. All the students and faculty travelled to St. Catharines, for the annual celebration at Holy Face church, which is followed by a long outdoors procession and three Benedictions of the Blessed Sacrament.
Finally, after the exodus of June 15, the school was left in quiet, for the grading of papers, preparation of report cards, counting the number of survivors (that is text books that can still be used).
