DECEMBER 22, 2012
The school was a buzz of activity in preparation for the annual Talent Quest. Jugglers and musicians were practicing, soloists and groups, vocal and instrumental (piano, harpsichord, violin, banjo, guitar and clarinet), occupying different parts of the school. The big day was Gaudete Sunday, December 16. After the High Mass, everyone participated in the pot luck dinner, and then headed to the Gymnasium. Miss Lesica, the organizer had decorated suitably and joyfully, and organized the rapid succession of events, each limited to five minutes maximum, but the whole lot lasting for nearly two hours. It was very reassuring that most of our students were able to participate and to demonstrate one or other exceptional talent..
After the High Mass on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, the boarders headed off in the Golden Chariot, for an afternoon with a difference – they were to prepare the next day`s meal, by catching, killing, gutting, plucking some roosters that they were to consume the next day. This took place on the farm of one of our parishioners, but the roosters had been hatched here at the school as part of a biology experiment about a year ago.
The last week of school before school break was a hectic one, with the students rushing to complete their assignments and essays before the deadline of Friday December 21 at 12:30 p.m., the beginning of Christmas break. Then began a cleaning spree. A veritable army of parishioners descended on the school on Friday afternoon and Saturday 22, cleaning from one end to the other: - dormitories, classrooms, hallways, gymnasium, cafeteria, refectory, bathrooms. Nothing is too clean for the Word made flesh. Also in preparation for the visit of the Superior General, and the wedding of two of our teachers, both to take place during the days after Christmas.
